About Us
The Upper Darby Township Fire Department has the responsibility of protecting a population which numbers approximately 81,821 residents within a large municipality of approximately seven point six two (7.62) square miles.

The Upper Darby Township Fire Department consists of five (5) stations, the Garrettford Drexel Hill Fire Company, organized on March 12, 1908, the Highland Park Fire Company organized November 29, 1911, the Upper Darby Fire Company organized in 1916, the Cardington-Stonehurst Fire Company on January 16, 1916 and the Primos Secane Westbrook Park Fire Company organized in 1955.
The Fire Department is a combination department consisting of approximately 49 Career Members and 227 Volunteer Fire Fighters. The Chief officers consist of one (1) Career Department Chief and four (4) Career Deputy Chiefs, five (5) District Chiefs, fifteen (15) Assistant Chiefs, six (6) Career Captains, ten (10) Volunteer Captains, ten (10) Lieutenants, one (1) Career Fire Marshal, one (1) Department Secretary.

The department responds to over 5,000 calls a year consisting of buildings, structure fires, automobiles, trash, brush, auto accidents and E.M.S. assist calls with the Delaware County Memorial Hospital Paramedics.

The Upper Darby Township Fire Department also operates it's own Fire Prevention Unit. The Department conducts Fire Prevention programs in all the 23 schools, a major hospital, senior citizens groups, various businesses and all its many in home day care providers and day care centers within the Township. The Fire Prevention Unit not only conducts fire drills though out the year for all the many schools within the Township but works along with the business community to conduct fire drills throughout the year at their request.

The department also operates its own Smoke Detector Program for senior citizens, handicap persons, and any families in our Township that cannot afford one.
We also have a program to deal with kids who play with fire or have tendencies to want to start fires.

The Upper Darby Township Fire Department is also proud of winning Fire Prevention awards from the Pennsylvania State Volunteer Fireman's Association.
As Department Chief I am proud of all my Fire Fighters and the fine job they do serving the community, and the vital role the Fire Prevention Unit plays within the Fire Department.

Safety Tips

Click here for a list of year long monthly Safety Tips we provided to the Upper Darby School District to run on their local Cable School Channel. The tips are intended to remind the many residents of Upper Darby Township to practice fire safety all year long and not just during Fire Prevention Month.

9-1-1 Emergencies

Dial 9-1-1 immediately for ALL fire, police, and medical emergencies. All fire, police, and medical services are dispatched from the 9-1-1 center, even routine or non-emergency matters. Always dial 9-1-1 for the fastest response no matter the reason why the fire, police, or medical services are needed.
